The progressive realization of a worthwhile goal is the definition of success. I was 28 years old, when someone gave me copy of, “Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill.  Since then, I have had a thirst for education and learning how to be more successful.  Barb also has used these principles to be successful in her family and in her careers.   We now want to share some of this with others.   Napolean Hill talks about creating a Master Mind.   This is a group of people of like mind who wish to study and learn how to improve their lives, not just business and finance, but relationships and recreation as well.   Health, as always is a big priority for Barb and I.   Having enough money to do the things that are good for you, is obviously beneficial healthwise.   Our initial focus will be on how to create financial balance.

 

Success Mastery will be a gathering of like minded people who desire to improve.  We will meet every other Friday from 6:30 to 8:00pm.   There will be no charge, except you must be willing to share your ideas and energy to help others in the group.   We will begin by studying Think and Grow Rich.

 

Think and Grow Rich

 

If you have not read this book, perhaps you might.   It was written by Napolean Hill.  He was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie, one of the super wealth people of the early 1900s to research why some people were very successful at creating wealth and others were not.   The deal was this, Andrew Carnegie would pay him for his time and if he discovered the answer he would be able to apply it and become financially independent.  Mr. Hill spent 20 years researching, interviewing people and writing his findings.   

 

His conclusions were written in a huge book of 2200 pages called the “Laws of Success” which no one read because it was too big.    He then spent a few years distilling the big book down into “Think and Grow Rich”.    This book caught on and has sold over 10 million copies.    It sparked the whole positive thinking and self improvement movement that has been going on since the 1950s.

 

The conclusion is that you can reach any goal by following these 10 easy steps.    It is not just about making money.    This can be applied to the attainment of any worthwhile goal: money, relationships, health, career, sports, retirement, etc.

 

Things sometimes look a little bleak.   The economy is weak here in Michigan.   We hear all the bad news every day.   Gas prices are high.   People begin to wonder if they are going to make it financially.  

 

We forget sometimes our mind is the most powerful tool that we have and best part is the use of it is free.     Stop watching the news.    It is too depressing.    If something big happens, someone will tell you.   Read this and other self-help books.   Program your mind with good, positive things.   

 

A book like “Think and Grow Rich” may be just what you need to guide your powerful mind to help you get some tough times ahead.

Below are few articles that are part of my Newspaper column.   They show how to be successful in caring for your health yourself. 

“The Arthritis Cure”

            Many years ago I read, “The Arthritis Cure” by Joseph Theodosakis MD.   It was my first understanding that one could do something about joint pain besides taking Motrin and Steroids.   Since then I have found many great ways to actually rebuild the joints.  This condition has a long functional period before actual pathology or damage occurs in the joints.   But even the pathology can be reversed in many cases.    

            Not all joint pain is arthritis, but that is what we tend to call it.  A joint has many parts and to fix the problem each needs to be addressed.  The bone ends are covered with cartilage.    This is covered with a slippery membrane call the synovium.     Surrounding each joint are the capsule and ligaments that hold the bones in proper alignment. This lining of the joint capsule is filled with a lubricating gel made from hyaluronic acid.    Running across the joints are tendons that connect the muscle to the bones.   The bones are covered by a membrane call the periostium to which the tendons attach.   Inside the joints, underlying the tendons are bursa.   These are small gel filled sacks that act like pulleys to lubricate a variety of structures to make for smooth pain-free operation.   A problem with any of these tissues can cause pain in the joints.

            The most common joint pains are caused by wear and tear of the cartilages, ligaments, and tendons that hold the joints together.  It is important to note that all of these tissues are made of collagen which tends to have very poor blood supple.  As a result, most of the nutrients are supplied by diffusion through the tissues and not through tiny capillaries like muscle, bone, skin, etc.  So, collagen structures tend to repair slowly.

The slight concussion of mild exercise supports this diffusion of nutrients. 

            To make collagen our body goes through many steps.  Two of these steps produce chondroitin and glucosamine.   If we add these directly to our diet we can increase the production of collagen and repair our cartilages faster.  Dietary sources are Jell-O or gelatin and animal cartilage or gristle from meat.  Most of us do not eat much Jell-O and most throw away the cartilage.   So adding a supplement containing these will be very helpful (avoid chondroitin if you have a high PSA or prostate cancer).  The third ingredient needed is MSM.  This helps break down the damaged collagen so it can be replaced with new.  All three are in Osteo-Bi-Flex or Ever Flex by NSP.   Another important nutrient is Omega 3 from fish oil or flax seed oil.   This acts as an anti-inflammatory and also helps in the production of the lubricating gel in the joint.  Both, fish oil and flaxseed oil have benefits, so we often recommend taking one or two of each once or twice daily.  The production of lubricating gel can also increased by dietary hyaluronic acid.   We like Baxyl or Hyaluronan which is a stable, absorbable form.

            If there are spurs (calcification of the ligament and tendon attachments) present, the joints will be stiff and painful, especially in the mornings.   Small hard nodules may occur over the knuckles.   These can be dissolved by using herbal Hydrangea three times per day and Homeopathic Calcerea Carbonicum 6C one per day.   Depending on how many spurs are present, 80% of them can be completely dissolved in three to six months.

            Taking these supplements ([Chondroitin, Glucosamine, and MSM-repair the cartilage], [Omega3 Oil and Hyaluronan-make more lubricating gel], [Hydrangea, and Hom. Calc.Carb-dissolve bone spurs]), following the blood type diet (to remove the inflammatory foods from the diet), and doing mild exercise (stretching and yoga type exercise, no high impact) will cure most cases of joint pain in three to six months. Fortunately, you do not have to take these supplements forever.   It is a good idea to take photos of your fingers before you start.    Send them to the Healing Center so we can see changes too.

Are You a Temple or a Party Store? 

   Many of us have heard the statement that our body is the temple where our soul lives.   A few weeks ago Barb was giving a talk on nutrition.   She asked this question of the audience.  Is your body a Temple or a Party Store?     It struck me that this is a great analogy for where some of us are and where some of us would like to be.    Now, if we add to that the concept of Body-Mind-Spirit, we can create a great model for how to live.

   What would a Physical Temple look like?    The body would be strong and muscular.   The skin smooth and clear.   The eyes bright and sparkling.  Our nose is open and able to smell everything.     Our tongue clean and able to experience the full range of gustatory delights (tastes) {I just love that word, gustatory}.  Our hearing is sharp.   We would be able to breathe fully and run with ease.    Our bounding heart provides nourishment to all our cells and tissues.   Digestion and assimilation of nutrients are flawless.   The elimination of wastes through the skin, lungs, kidneys and bowels keeps our body fresh and vibrant.  The hands are flexible with excellent fine motor skills.  Feet and legs carry us with poise and efficiency.   Our back is strong and supportive of all our physical activity.    The body is an efficient machine doing everything we desire it to do.   Daily exercise is an enjoyable routine.

   What would a Mental Temple look like?    The memory is sharp and clear.   We can focus or daydream, which ever we need at the time.   We are funny and enjoy a great laugh.   Our thoughts are peaceful and comfortable.   We see the good in everyone and every situation.   We know that everything happens for a reason and a purpose that serves us in some way, even if we do not understand it.   We hang out with joyful loving people.   We use our minds to plan and create great things; and we wallow in successful outcomes.

   Our Spiritual Temple would have a daily spiritual practice.   There would a time of prayer, meditation, and contemplation.   Unconditional love for everyone we meet is automatic.  Through out the day we take time to marvel at the wonder and majesty of God’s Creation.   We read and study with the innocent open mindedness of a child.

   I know that most party stores in our towns are not like this and the owners do provide an important service for many people.   This analogy is not intended to offend any of those great people.    But I want you to picture a dirty, grimy, little store that is filled with many things that we intuitively know are not healthy for us: alcohol, tobacco, pop, coffee, junk food, pornography, processed food with many additives and preservative, etc.   Outside are some seedy characters selling drugs.   The energy of this place is low and dark.

   We all find ourselves somewhere on the teeter totter between the Temple and the Party Store.   As we move back and forth, day by day, keep the model of the Temple in your mind as your ideal.   You will slowly be attracted to do those things that will bring you closer to that place where your soul does live in a Temple.
